Environment and Me

May 25 | 9:00 am - June 12 | 3:00 pm

The Environment and Me program at Port Moresby Nature Park is a premier environmental education initiative designed to inspire the next generation of conservationists in Papua New Guinea. Scheduled for May 25 to June 12, 2026, this three-week program typically aligns with the global celebrations for World Environment Day (June 5).

Here are the key details for the upcoming session:

Program Overview

The program focuses on the relationship between humans and the natural world. It moves beyond classroom theory by providing students with hands-on, immersive experiences within the park’s lush rainforest and wildlife exhibits.

Primary Goal: To educate students on waste management, ecosystem restoration, and the daily actions they can take to protect PNG’s unique biodiversity.

Target Audience: Students from Elementary through to Secondary school levels.

Format: Interactive outdoor learning sessions led by the Park’s Education Team.

Key Learning Themes

The curriculum is redesigned annually to stay relevant, but typically covers:

  1. Waste Management: Understanding the “3 Rs” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and the impact of plastic pollution on local wildlife.
  2. Ecosystem Restoration: Learning about native plant species and the importance of maintaining natural habitats.
  3. Wildlife Conservation: Direct encounters with resident animals (like tree kangaroos and cassowaries) to discuss their roles in the environment.
  4. Climate Change: Simple, real-life examples of how local actions contribute to global environmental health.

Since this is a high-demand program, schools are encouraged to book early.
